Spiritual Trauma

What is Spiritual Trauma?
Spiritual trauma, also known as spiritual wound, refers to the deep emotional, psychological, and spiritual distress caused by experiences that disrupt a person’s sense of meaning, purpose, or connection to a higher power or spiritual community. This type of trauma can stem from various sources, including things like manipulation, control, or exploitation by religious leaders or members of a spiritual community; experiencing events that challenge or shatter deeply held spiritual or religious beliefs; experiencing or witnessing violence, abuse, or natural disasters that lead to questioning spiritual beliefs; or shared traumatic experiences within a community, such as systemic oppression or cultural genocide.

Intense anger or resentment towards religious institutions or beliefs.
